I am looking into enrolling for courses at a riding school and she told me if l ever got a license and got a motorcycle, she would stop speaking to me.She seems to have really strong feelings about this. How can l get my mother to realize that riding is not as dangerous as everyone thinks it is?

How can I get my mother to realize that motorcycles are safe

give her a reason put your friends in the conversation i'm sure she will agree

haha you need to lie to her. Buy a good helmet, good jacket, and some good boots. Make some misguiding truths like ''more people die in car accidents a day than die from motorcycle accidents in 10 years''

As a current motorcycle rider I will advise the following:

1.DO NOT ever ride on a ''crotch rocket''. You r like a missle going head first.
2.Always wear a full face helmet. I once got hit in the head by a bird. And wear gloves. Cars kick up little pebbles & stones & when u get hit, u have to learn not to take ur hands off the handlebars.
3. Never wear shorts or sandals or flip flops. If u burn yourself on the exhaust or wipe out & survive, u will have the worst case of road rash u will cry for a month.
4. Always watch out for the other guy, because they never see you. They will change lanes into you, pull out in front of you, turn in front of you, anything u can think of, they will do it. I once had a school bus hit me from behind. The driver was up so high, so did not see down there.

If u pass a safety course, they will teach u to get a smaller bike to start. Do not ignore that advice. When u get better, then move up. You need ur weight to lean into a turn, & if the bike weighs 3 or 4 times what u do, the wind could blow u over the other way.

I know. My bike weighs 515 pounds & I weigh 150. I was on the on ramp to an expressway & a gust of wind blew me off the road into the woods. I was ok, but I couldnt pick up my bike because it weighs too much.

If u start very small, & stay local, wear proper clothing, & pass a safety course, ur mother might go for it, otherwise she has no reason to let u until u r old enough to do what u want. Sorry.

at least u r playin it smart takin the safety course, alot of noobs dont even do this..and instead of gettin a bike that they can handle, they jump on a potent high power rice rocket, & kill themselves before half the season is up.

if u r 18+, momma has no say so in if u want to get a bike if ur the 1 paying for it. she might be more receptive to a cruiser than a sport bike; most of the dead squids r on sport bikes bein stupid in traffic to begin with.

if u ride with a brain in ur head, riding is safe. our biggest enemy is the inattentive car driver. i will guarentee u the safety course will give u a slight edge when u eventually meet 1 of those morons, & that is, how to get the bike stopped the right way. THE hardest part of ridin a street bike is using the brakes the right way.
momma might give ya the silent treatment for the 1st season, but she will come around. been there, done it with my wife..she didnt want me to get the bike i have either. got it anyway, & the season after i got my endorsement, she got 'brave' & decided to take a short putt around the block. if we can afford it, we're going to get a bigger bike that will be able to handle the both of us..this 1 just wont do it.

i suggest u start out on a mid-size cruiser. if not a harley, at least a 850 or a 1100cc bike. be aware that air cooled bikes r nowhere near as potent as water cooled rockets. survive ur first season, momma will start warmin up to the fact that u can handle a bike. i suggest to get at least an 850 or 1100cc bike because once u get bit by the ridin bug, u will want to go for longer & longer rides. the bigger the bike, the softer the ride.

i also recommend getting a video or 2 from ride like a pro. i have a couple, & they're worth the cash. go to http://ridelikeapro.com

Do not listen to the anti-motorcycle crowd here.

My mom said the same thing until I took her for a ride on the motorcycle I was considering buying. After that she said, ''Go ahead and get the bike.''

your mother is right I hate to tell you, I sold mine as too many people pull out right in front of you and had too many just misses, I figured I had better get rid of it before it killed me.

she is your mom. she wants her way. she will pout for awhile but she does not want to loose her relationship with you.

YOU CANT...

Because they r not safe.. It is not ''if'' u get in an accident but ''when'' u get in an accident. Ever see those cool looking 3-wheeled motorcycles??? Those r owned mostly by people who lost a leg from a motorcycle accident!

I have a friend that saw a guy take a spill on the bridge going to Newport, RI. (it has a grate as opposed to concrete as a roadway). Cut him up like a cheese grater..

Wait until u r out of the house & on ur own insurance before u try this.. Cycling is fun. the dangers out way the risk... AND if u do ride ALWAYS wear a helmet. I am sure that ur mom does not want to care for a vegetable!

Riding a bike is more dangerous than a car, many drivers fail to see the bike in their blind spots, bikes r harder to see, especially at night. It is easy to not see the motorcycle, so the motorcycle rider has to be more aware of his surroundings, & drive very defensively. Also, u r far more likely to receive a serious injury riding a bike, helmut & leathers do help, but u have no ''vehicle cage'' around you, ur body is what gets hit by the other car, not ur bike, so bodily injury is high. My son drives a ''crotch rocket I hate that damn thing! I know he will be injured some day, it is just a matter of time. Good luck, drive safe.

Good luck, Donna. Your mom is well-aware of the hazards of motorcycle riding and is concerned for her daughter is welfare. Motorcycle riding is dangerous and will always have serious hazards that cannot be eliminated, no matter how good a rider you may be. Car drivers tend to look right through you as if you were not even there and the instances of car drivers hitting motorcyclists in intersections are tragically too frequent.

Ok even I do not think they are safe but you could.bribe her,get some other people to tell her they are safe,do sum resarch and make a 500 word essay on them and how they are safe.

PS:You could say you will be reeeaaall careful.
And it would be of good use.

How can I get my mother to realize that motorcycles are safe

its illusion, motorcycles are not safe at all!!! better find u some horse to ride)) i'm not joking, it is people-killing machine.

How can I get my mother to realize that motorcycles are safe

buy her a Harley and plan a trip together.she will love it.

By the way.I love bikers! They make the best organ donations!!!!!

Do not take your organs to Heaven.Heaven knows we need them down here!

How can I get my mother to realize that motorcycles are safe

motor cycles are not.. safe. they only as safe as the person riding them and the people around you.

if you are respoonsible person and trust worth. then maybe your parents would trust something you want to do. earn the trust then maybe she will trust you more
